Exeter Area Grad Stars on College Crew Team

HAMILTON COLLEGE MEN’S CREW: May 10-11 at the ECAC Championships (in Worcester, Mass.).
Hamilton College’s varsity eight finished second in the petite final at the New York State Collegiate Rowing championships in Whitney Point, N.Y., on May 3 and 4. Hamilton’s time in Sunday’s varsity eight petite final was 6:23.2 on the 2,000-meter course. NCAA Division I Binghamton University finished first with a time of 6:19.7. Hamilton ended up fifth in its heat on Saturday with a time of 7:32.8. Ricky Bottini ’10 (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Kent School [Conn.]) was coxswain for the varsity eight. Charlie Palanza ’10 (Tucson, Ariz./Green Fields Country Day School) was stroke, and Tim Belden ’10 (Stamford, Conn./Brunswick School) was in the bow seat. The rest of the rowers included (seats seven through two in descending order): Willy Cowles ’09 (Farmington, Conn./Milton Academy [Mass.]), JEFF CARDONI ’11 (KENSINGTON, N.H./EXETER AREA HS), Ben Sholl ’09 (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier Township HS), Jonathan Wilson ’09 (Newcastle, Wash./Eastside Catholic HS), Mike Millar ’08 (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) and Andre Matias ’11 (Luanda, Angola/Blair Academy [N.J.]). Hamilton finished seventh in a second varsity eight race with a time of 10:41.9 on Saturday. Dan Rudel ’10 (Metuchen, N.J./Choate Rosemary Hall [Conn.]) was coxswain, Alex de Moor ’10 (Wayland, Mass./Wayland HS) was stroke and Walter Cronkite ’11 (New York, N.Y./Horace Mann School) was in the bow seat. The rest of the rowers included (seats seven through two in descending order): RD Eisenhart '11, Colin Clark ’11 (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS), Andre Zakoworotny ’11 (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional HS), Matt Kotlove ’09 (Fayetteville, N.Y./Homer HS), Zac Haluza ’11 (Brick Township, N.J./ Brick Township HS) and Ayush Soni ’11 (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale HS). Hamilton awaits a possible invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference/National Invitational Collegiate Regatta, which is held on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, in Worcester, Mass.
